Voices for Hospices 2011

 in aid of St.Peter & St.James Hospice, North Chailey

Many thanks to the 56 people who have responded so far to our letter of January – 17 sops, 15 altos, 7 tenors, and 17 basses. We have now got to the stage when we need to ask for a commitment, and so  we should be grateful for an early reply to this letter – apart from needing to have a clearer idea of the numbers we need to know as soon as possible how many vocal scores to order. The fee will be £12 as last year – payment with the application would be appreciated but if preferred may be delayed until the beginning of July.

Fauré’s Requiem won the vote by a short head – we are still on FPTP here whatever you may think of AV- so we shall sing that. Some of you may feel you are over familiar with Fauré but we have not done it for 15 years and it is always popular with audiences ( it is not being performed by other local choirs at around the same time) and it should have the merit of requiring no time spent on note bashing, which is important with our limited rehearsal time. Apologies to those who would like to be more adventurous. As it is comparatively short we shall also sing Fauré’s Cantique de Jean Racine as we did last time. Vocal scores (Publisher Requiem Novello, Cantique O.U.P.) will be available from July onwards – to encourage homework! and may be collected from Hadlow Lodge (01825 830723) – hire price as set out on the application form. John Berbuto tells me that he will make learning files available on his website, choralsociety.org.uk The first half will be an orchestral work not yet decided.

We intend to repeat the workshop rehearsal day and this will be on Saturday 1st October. We will start at 11am, have a break for lunch and finish at about 5pm. The rehearsal on the concert day with the orchestra will be at 3.15pm to arrange the seating and start at 3.30pm.
